Stig Frode Olsen

I am educated as a biologist at the University of Bergen, and fulfilled the grade in 1986.

I have worked as a teacher most of the years since 1987, but in 2001 I started at Jæren folkehøgskule with the responsibility for a class in nature photography and later also a class in general photography.

I have since childhood been very interested in animals and in the teens also the interest for birds started. In my twenties I also started to take photographs of wildlife.

I am married with a wife with great patience and understanding which have made it possible to spend so much time at different photo-projects. Besides I have three wonderful children: Twins born in 1994, a boy and a girl, and last a boy born in 1996

During the years I have made numerous Photo-articles in different magazines and news papers and also contributed with pictures to different books. In 2008 I published my own book: Rovfugler og ugler I Nord-Europa(Birds of Prey and Owls in Northern Europe).

I have won several first prizes as a nature photographer, among them the Norwegian Championship in nature photography in 1987, 2003, and 2004, and the last one in 2006 where I achieved the second place in the same competition.

In 2006 I also got first prize in the category “Threatened species” in the world`s most prestigious nature photo competitions, arranged by BBC and British Natural History Museum (Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year).
